Method and limitations

Uses the 2025 USATF Masters Long Distance Running road tables by Alan Jones, developed with single-age bests provided by Tom Bernhard. The repository records approval on January 10, 2025. Male workbook version: July 27, 2025. These are road standards, not track or combined-events scoring.

Enter your whole-year age on race day (5–99), the table’s male or female category, and a road 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon time. No age or distance interpolation is used.

Age-adjusted time = finish time × published age factor. Age-grade percentage = open-class standard ÷ age-adjusted time × 100. The age-specific standard is open-class standard ÷ factor. Percentages above 100 are allowed. Age grading compares performance with table standards; it is not a percentile, a prediction of another race, or a laboratory fitness measurement.

We use matching open-class times and factors from each workbook’s Age Factors sheet. Other workbook tabs contain inconsistencies and are not mixed into the calculation. Four-decimal published factors are retained; displayed times are rounded to the nearest second. Age-specific standards are calculated from those factors.
