Waist-to-Height Ratio Calculator

Calculate waist-to-height ratio and an optional user-entered comparison boundary in inches or centimeters. Results update instantly as you change an input.

Compare with a ratio you supply

This is your entered comparison, not a built-in service standard. The boundary measurement is not an official maximum passing waist.

How the ratio is calculated

Waist-to-height ratio = waist circumference ÷ height, using the same measurement units. For example, an 85 cm waist and 175 cm height produce 0.486 after rounding to three decimal places. One inch equals exactly 2.54 cm.

You can enter a comparison ratio to calculate its waist boundary: height × comparison ratio. The comparison uses full precision rather than the rounded displayed ratio. Values at the boundary are reported separately from values below it. This tool does not infer whether an official policy uses a strict or inclusive cutoff.

Military body-composition screening

Army, Navy and other service screening decisions require the applicable current policy, measurement site, rounding method, assessment sequence and exemptions. No service-specific thresholds are embedded here. A mathematical ratio is not an official pass/fail result, a body-fat percentage, or a diagnosis.

Consistent measurements

Use a consistent waist measurement site and technique when tracking your own trend. When preparing for an official assessment, follow the measurement instructions published by your service rather than assuming a general waist measurement is interchangeable.
