Method and source scope

This page implements the first-stage Marine Corps waist-to-height screen, not a complete body-fat assessment. Use two navel-level waist measurements taken according to the authorized procedure. The lower waist is rounded down to the nearest half inch. Height is also rounded down to the nearest half inch.

The ratio is calculated from the recorded measurements. MARADMIN 073/26 corrects the earlier wording to less than or equal to 0.52, regardless of sex. The comparison uses full precision: a displayed rounded ratio never determines the outcome. This page supports the published height range of 53–84 inches.

Maximum recorded waist is the largest half-inch value no greater than 0.52 × recorded height. For example, recorded height 75.0 inches and waist 39.0 inches produce exactly 0.52 and satisfy the screening condition.

A ratio above the standard requires further body-fat evaluation, not an automatic body-composition failure. Under 066/26, an initial failed body-fat method requires the alternative method; an incomplete required evaluation must not be treated as a final failure. This page does not calculate tape-test body fat, BIA readings, performance allowances, waivers, or BCP enrollment.
