What is strength-to-weight ratio?

Strength-to-weight ratio divides lifted weight by bodyweight. A 225 lb lift at 180 lb bodyweight is 1.25 times bodyweight.

Why bodyweight-relative strength matters

Relative strength adds context when comparing differently sized athletes or tracking strength alongside body-mass changes.

Absolute strength vs relative strength

Absolute strength is the load lifted. Relative strength scales that load to bodyweight; improving either measure can be useful depending on the goal.

Uses in powerlifting and calisthenics

Powerlifting scoring systems adjust totals for bodyweight, while calisthenics inherently requires moving body mass. This simple ratio is descriptive and is not a competition score.

Method note: The result is a direct ratio and deliberately does not attach an invented novice-to-elite classification.
